Most Frequently Asked
Cymatics is the study of visible sound, and examines how different frequencies may influence matter, including biological cells and tissues. When it comes to human health, cymatic therapy uses specific frequency combinations with the aim of supporting the body's natural restorative processes, such as the stress response, autonomic balance and relaxation. Sound healing is the practice of using sound and vibration — such as the human voice, music, tuning forks, gongs, singing bowls, drums, didgeridoo etc. — to support relaxation, balance, and overall well-being.
Cymatic therapy uses specific combinations of sound frequencies, in the audible spectrum, representative of coherent, balanced and healthy tissues. The sounds are electronically generated and delivered through specialised equipment. The experience is relaxing and soothing, even though the sounds are not always melodious in nature.

Cymatic therapy is a complementary practice with a history of over 60 years of research, development and practical application. It shares some similarities with a sound bath — both can bring deep relaxation and a greater sense of wellbeing. However, cymatic therapy uses pure, electronically generated sound frequencies, delivered through specialized equipment, and applied to specific areas of the body, rather than using music or ambient instruments like Tibetan bowls or gongs played in a room.
The frequencies used are carefully selected and specifically designed to resonate with the body's tissues and organs. The sounds aren't always melodious, as those created by musical instruments, but they're intended to support the body in a more targeted way.
My path into sound healing began with a foundation in Western medical education and a Master's in Public Health, followed by six years of research and teaching in the field. I later pursued advanced training in cymatics and sound healing, and earned a Practitioner Diploma in BioKymatic (also known as Cymatic) Therapy.
In my practice, I follow the latest research and internationally recognized best practices for sound-based therapies to ensure every session is safe and appropriate for each client. I am also affiliated with leading international organizations in the field. You can read more about my background here.
My scope of practice is limited to complementary wellbeing support. I do not diagnose, treat, or cure medical conditions, and cymatic therapy is not a substitute for conventional medical care.
Cymatic therapy is a gentle, non-invasive, and painless practice, with no known long-term side effects. To most people, it feels like a soothing and relaxing acoustic massage. It is often described by practitioners as similar to sonic acupuncture.
In my practice, I follow internationally recognized guidelines for sound-based therapies to help ensure every session is safe and appropriate for you. For more details on safety guidelines, please see the Guidance & Caution section.
Cymatic therapy offers the body a rare kind of reset — one that supports its natural capacity to recharge, rebalance, and restore itself. Clients regularly report improvements with stress, anxiety, poor sleep, fatigue, migraines, while others turn to it for chronic pain or more complex health concerns.

Yes. Sharing relevant health information before your session helps us ensure it's safe and appropriately tailored to you. Before your first session, you'll be asked to complete a short health questionnaire. If you have questions or specific concerns you'd like to discuss beforehand, you're welcome to reach out — a Free Discovery Call is a great place to start.
No, there are no age limits for this type of therapy. However, the sessions tend to be shorter for children and seniors, and often last between 15-30min.
Children often respond very well to this type of therapy. For some children, sitting still for extended periods can be difficult, so sessions tend to be shorter, often between 10-25min.
Please note: These services are primarily intended for adults. Any request involving a person under the age of 18 should be discussed in advance. Where a minor is accepted, the appropriate consent of the parent or legal representative will be required, and additional safeguards may apply.
I use specialised equipment that generates specific combinations of sound frequencies (3–5 at a time) and delivers them through a handheld applicator. A red light function is included and used throughout most sessions.
The technology is the result of more than 60 years of research and development in the field of cymatic therapy. It is understood to have begun in the early 1960s, with Dr. Peter Guy Manners working alongside an international team of researchers to develop and refine the approach.

While cymatic therapy is generally well tolerated, there are certain situations where a session could be adapted, avoided, postponed, or require a consultation with your doctor beforehand. Some of the circumstances that require special consideration are: pregnancy, history of pulmonary embolism, history of blood clots (e.g. DVT), certain neurological or psychiatric conditions, electrical or metal implants, recent surgery, recent significant injury or head trauma, active or complex medical conditions or any other circumstance that may affect your safety during a session. This list is not exhaustive.
Other precautions are taken and, for example, cymatic therapy is not applied directly to open wounds or to areas that have had surgery at least until sutures have been removed.
For this reason, clients are asked to provide relevant information about their health before a session. Sessions may be declined or postponed where there is insufficient information to consider that it can be performed safely.
If you have a serious, complex, or actively evolving health condition, that is not listed here, I recommend discussing your situation directly before booking — a Free Discovery Call is a good place to start.
Pregnancy requires extra caution. During pregnancy, the body’s resources are overextended, and sound therapy should be used with great caution by women in their first or second trimester of pregnancy.
Women in their third trimester of pregnancy can benefit from cymatic therapy in certain cases, e.g. to relieve muscle or joint tension or promote relaxation. If you are pregnant and considering a session later in pregnancy, please reach out beforehand so we can discuss your specific situation.
If pregnant, you should consult with your healthcare professional prior to attending a session.
Metal implants include, but are not limited to, metal rods, screws or plates. Using the sound applicator directly on the area with an implant may cause some discomfort. Therefore, I always make sure the application is gentle and performed with care; the sound intensity and duration will be adjusted according to the needs and preference of the client.
Cymatic therapy may interact with the functioning of electrical devices, so it should only be considered after consulting with your medical professional. Electrical medical implants include, but are not limited to, pacemakers, ICDs (implantable cardioverter defibrillators), insulin pumps and neural implants.
The session may be declined or postponed where there is insufficient information to consider that it can be performed safely.
Cymatic therapy may increase the likelihood of dislodging blood clots due to the vibratory nature of the sound. For this reason, cymatic therapy may not be suitable for individuals with large varicose veins or a history of blood clotting or DVT.
Please consult with your medical professional prior to attending a session.
After a concussion or head trauma, it is recommended to wait at least 3 months before receiving sound therapy. Each case is different — if you've had a concussion or head trauma within the past 3 months, please consult with your medical professional before attending a session to determine whether it's appropriate for you.
This is a deeply individual situation that is typically guided by the medical and palliative care team. If you're considering cymatic therapy in this context, please inform the healthcare team and confirm the approach. Then please reach out so we can discuss how to proceed.
Cymatic therapy is a gentle, low-risk complementary practice that uses audible sound, and most people can enjoy it safely. It can support the body in many different ways, and offer relief from stress and overwhelm, brain fog, poor sleep, energy depletion and fatigue, muscle and joint tension, accelerate recovery time, or help with long-standing and more complex health concerns.

In practice, the vast majority of clients experience a meaningful improvement in energy levels, a reduction in stress-related symptoms, better sleep, less discomfort, and a greater sense of overall wellbeing. For clients who don't find cymatic therapy is the right fit, I am happy to discuss alternative therapies that might be more appropriate for their situation.
Sensations such as tingling, warmth, a release of tension, increased energy or relaxation, deeper sleep or deeper, easier breathing following a session are commonly reported experiences, often taken as signs that the body is responding to the therapy. Individual responses vary, and some people may have very little sensation — which doesn't mean the therapy had no effect.
The effects of the therapy are cumulative and depend on each individual’s circumstances. While most people notice an improvement in their sense of wellbeing immediately after the session, others may take up to 48 hours to experience the full effects. For clients seeking more significant results, several sessions may be required.
The vast majority of people have observed an improvement in sleep quality — often describing it as deeper and more restful — following a cymatic therapy session. In the 24–72 hours afterward, most people feel an overall sense of relaxation, mental clarity, renewed sense of purpose and higher states of being. The effects on digestion can vary, depending on each individual's circumstances.
Cymatic therapy is a subtle and often very soothing form of complementary therapy, using sound frequencies in the audible range. It involves no drugs and is non-invasive, with no known long-term side effects. As with many complementary therapies, a reaction (sometimes referred to in complementary practices as a ‘detox response’ or ‘healing crisis’) may occur while the body releases stress, blocked emotions or toxins. This can result in temporary sensations such as headaches, dizziness or lightheadedness, fatigue or hyperactivity, excessive thirst, tingling, muscle soreness, sweating, vivid dreams, heightened emotions and, on some rare occasions, mild episodes of vomiting or diarrhea, which typically resolve on their own within a short time.
These reactions are generally mild and pass within 48-72h. During this time, it is essential to support the body by drinking plenty of water, avoiding all processed foods and stimulants and getting plenty of sleep. Further post-session guidance will be provided to help support your body through this process.
Disclaimer: If any reaction is severe, persists beyond 72 hours, or worsens rather than improves, please contact a qualified healthcare professional.
Cymatic therapy is very subtle, uses no medication and is non-invasive. It can be considered complementary to conventional medicine, and not a substitute. It does not replace appropriate medical treatment, nor does it replace a nutritious diet, proper hydration, harmonious relationships or a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Disclaimer: Cymatic therapy does not interfere with, replace or delay medical care. If you have a significant health condition or are undergoing treatment, please consult with your healthcare professional before attending a session.
Due to the complexity of human beings and their conditions, integrating therapies - both medical and complementary - can offer greater success in enhancing and sustaining therapeutic outcomes, especially when dealing with chronic conditions.
As an individual approach, cymatic therapy has great potential to accelerate recovery time, provide energetic support, reduce stress etc, but its benefits can also be enhanced when combined with other therapies. Based on past experiences, oftentimes massages, osteopathy, homeopathy, nutritional guidance, physical therapies, counselling and breathing exercises are good examples of additional therapeutic support.
No. Cymatic therapy is painless and non-invasive. The audible sound is applied to the body with a small, lightweight device, and, to most people, the therapy feels like a very light and soothing vibratory massage.
The sound volume is always adjusted to fit the comfort level of the client. It can range from sounds that are barely audible to those made by regular house appliances.
Sometimes, the sound tones can be soothing and melodic, but many times they are not. In the field of sound healing, the audible vibrations used for treatments may not always have musical tones, and neither does cymatic therapy. In fact, some people’s experience can be more akin to the humming of a fridge or the buzzing of a fan. However, the tones are not disturbing to the ear, and most people find them quite calming.
No. In cymatic therapy, the sound is applied through a small, lightweight device placed on specific areas of the body, depending on your needs. The sound and vibrations travel through the tissues along the acupuncture meridian lines, and the entire body is thus exposed to the sound.
For best results, consider eating light meals and hydrating very well the day prior and throughout the day of the session. Avoid any stimulants (e.g. caffeine, black tea, energy and sugary drinks or any type of soda) right before the session.
I recommended that you wear comfortable clothing that allows you to fully relax during the treatment.
During the session, the client typically lies comfortably on the therapy table, similar to a massage table. Those who are unable to lie down may sit comfortably in a chair. For best results, the sound is applied directly to the skin, but clients can also choose to remain fully clothed throughout.
The sound is emitted through a lightweight applicator and placed over specific areas of the body. The application is painless, non-invasive and very soothing.
The experience is unique to each individual. Typically, clients feel the sound vibrations and may also hear the sound depending on frequencies used or the application location. Sensations may arise in the body, with certain body parts feeling relaxed, stimulated or "lit up”. Some people feel tingles, goosebumps or chills in response to certain frequencies, or feel different emotions rising to the surface. Others fall into a deep relaxing state, or even sleep.
There is no single expected response, and experiencing no immediate sensation does not mean that something is wrong.
Cymatic therapy stimulates the body's natural capacity to rebalance and supporting it through that process can help you get the most from your session: e.g. proper hydration and nutrition, movement, breathing or grounding. These are generally helpful on any day, but even more so after a cymatic treatment. Additional guidance will be offered after each session.
The first session typically takes up to 90 minutes, as it includes an initial conversation to understand your needs and health history before beginning. Follow-up sessions usually take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on your individual circumstances and goals.
The number of sessions needed depends on your individual health circumstances, goals, and how you respond over time. Some clients may choose to attend a single session, while others prefer to incorporate cymatic therapy into their regular wellness routine. In general, most people notice a meaningful shift in their overall sense of wellbeing after the first 3 sessions, and later, as sessions progress. Each session builds on the last, and ongoing sessions can provide continued support and insight.
Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee that a particular number of sessions will produce a particular result.
The right interval depends on your individual goals, availability, and how you personally respond to sessions. Some clients prefer sessions spaced 2-3 days apart, especially in the beginning, while others find that a weekly or occasional rhythm works well for ongoing support. The pacing that might suit you best will be based on your preferences and goals.
Disclaimer: If you're managing a specific health condition, any related treatment schedule should be determined by a qualified healthcare professional.
The initial booking request should contain only the information necessary to arrange the appointment, such as your name, contact details, and preferred time. Please do not include detailed medical or health information in the website booking form.
Health information needed for a safe session will be collected separately, through a health questionnaire, and handled in line with applicable privacy and data protection requirements.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance. In cases of genuine emergency or illness, please reach out as soon as possible — I'm happy to work with you to find a better time. You can also manage your booking, cancel, or reschedule directly through the online booking system.
Cymatic therapy is not covered by the Portuguese national health service and is paid directly at the time of the session. Some private health insurance plans in Portugal include coverage for complementary or non-conventional therapies, but we cannot guarantee reimbursement, as this depends entirely on your specific policy. Please check directly with your insurance provider to determine whether any reimbursement might be available.
No. All sessions require the physical presence of the client. Cymatic therapy is performed by applying sound directly to the body, and any remote or wireless delivery can compromise the quality and integrity of the sound and the effects of the therapy.
Home sessions are not part of the standard service offering, unless expressly agreed in advance. Please schedule a Free Discovery Call if you wish to enquire about a particular circumstance.
Each cymatic therapy session is different as it is fully tailored to the needs and goals of the individual. Therefore, sessions are only offered on an individual one-to-one basis.
